– Why Play Raze?
Raze has access to some incredibly powerful abilities that all do a large amount of damage to enemies. Some of these abilities can also be used to boost Raze into places that give her an advantage when holding an angle. Raze’s boom bot ability also allows gives her an advantage when peaking around a corner, as it emits a loud noise upon spotting an enemy. Her grenade ability can also prevent enemies from pushing an area, or potentially kill multiple of them. Overall, Raze has a really cool kit that allows for many things that most other agents don’t have access to.
– Raze’s Abilities
– Boom Bot (200 Credits, 1 Max)
Boom bot is an ability that allows Raze to throw a bot that targets the closest enemy player. This ability will travel in a straight line until either coming into contact with an enemy or its timer runs out. Boom bot can be very good both for clearing out areas and for peaking specific angles. Boom bot makes a lot of noise after being thrown and can be heard from a decent distance away. When an enemy is spotted, this ability will make an even louder noise and go straight for the enemy player. If the boom bot is not destroyed in time, it will blow up and deal a large amount of damage.
Using Boom Bot:
When looking to throw this ability, there are generally a few different ways to go about doing so. The first method is simply to throw the boom bot and listen since it makes such a loud noise when spotting an enemy player. The next method, which is much more common, is to peak with the boom bot as it spots an enemy player. This forces the enemy to either shoot you or the boom bot, likely resulting in their death. This ability is also quite good for tricking enemies of your location. If you throw this ability down and quickly change positions, you can easily get a free kill.
– Blast Pack (200 Credits, 2 Max)
Blast pack is an ability that allows Raze to throw an explosive pack in front of her. This ability can be thrown directly at enemy players, or to boost Raze up onto high-ground. It’s worth noting that blast pack can also be used to boost Raze forward into enemy territory to catch them off-guard. It’s fairly common to see this ability thrown at Sage walls, as it can be very effective at quickly destroying them. It’s good to know that you can throw blast packs quite far, allowing you to kill enemies over obstacles.
Using Blast Pack:
It’s most common to use this ability to boost onto high-ground or to boost forward. If you’re given the opportunity to damage an enemy player with it, then quickly take it. However, chances to damage enemies with blast packs are rare and should generally only be taken around corners or obstacles. Using a blast pack to take control of a high-ground angle before a round starts is very good and can be done occasionally to catch out unsuspecting enemies. It’s also very good to use in combination with Raze’s ult to gain more distance with her rocket out.
– Paint Shells (Signature Ability)
Paint shells is an ability that allows Raze to throw a grenade that explodes into four mini-explosions (sounds very fun to die to). It’s very hard to use this ability poorly, due to how much damage it has the potential to do. The grenade explosion is quite large, and the four additional explosions simply add to it. You can throw a paint shell when enemies are pushing to slow a push and potentially get a free kill. When attacking, it’s also good to throw this ability where you know an enemy is playing to force them to peak or relocate.
Using Paint Shells:
It’s pretty common to see paint shells thrown early in rounds to secure a free kill or two. When throwing this ability, you shouldn’t expect it to be the thing that kills the enemy/enemies. Use this ability as a means to force enemies to either peak you or into less favorable positions for them. After your team plants a spike, this ability can also be used to prevent a spike defuse, as it will quickly kill any enemy attempting to defuse it. Communicating when and where you plan to use paint shells can also be extremely good at securely a free kill or even more.
– Showstopper (Ultimate Ability)
Showstopper is Raze’s ultimate ability and allows her to pull out an explosive rocket launcher upon activation. The rocket stays available for up to ten seconds for Raze to use. The radius for the rocket explosion is pretty large and can one-shot enemies toward the middle of the radius. Enemies on the outside of the radius will take slightly less damage. When firing this ultimate, it also slightly propels Raze in the opposite direction she shoots it in. This ult can easily kill multiple enemies that are attempting to take or defending a site. It’s worth noting that upon activating Raze’s ultimate, she makes a very loud noise, notifying all players that she is ulting.
Activating showstopper before pushing a site or as attackers are taking a site is ideal. Using this ultimate post-spike-plant as an attacker or defender is also very good for attempting to find a pick. This can also be very good for killing spike-defusers in the later part of a round. Be careful, since this ability is a projectile, it will take a moment to reach your opponent. If your opponent’s reaction time is quick enough, they can quickly snap to your head before the rocket reaches them. Lastly, be careful when ulting close to yourself, as you will take damage yourself.
Raze has many ways to damage the enemy players. Each one of her abilities involves some sort of explosive damage, which can also be incredibly good for zoning enemies. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Raze’s abilities can also damage her teammates as well as herself. Using her blast pack in combination will often allow you to catch enemy players off-guard and get potential picks.
