Killjoy’s nanoswarm ability is incredibly powerful, with the potential to win entire multiple rounds throughout the course of a single game. Nanoswarm makes a relatively loud buzzing noise once it is placed on a surface, and also appears bright red to enemy players. This often makes shooting this ability quite easy for enemies. However, nanoswarm also goes directly through walls and objects with its medium-sized radius. With proper placements of this ability, you can still stop plants and surprise unsuspecting enemies.
Killjoy can hold up to two nanoswarms each round. You always want to buy at least one if you have enough credits to do so. Use the one nanoswarm defensively to attempt to prevent or slowing enemy pushes or enemy plants. The second swarm grenade, if you have it, can be used offensively after enemies have planted, or to check corners that enemies might be hiding in. Overall, it’s important to remember to be a little creative with your second swarm grenade every once in a while.
Killjoy on B-Site:
Nanoswarm #1 for Default Plant on B-Site:
This is one of the most effective swarm grenades for B-Site, and will inevitably catch an enemy off-guard if activated at the correct times. To begin, simply place a nanoswarm inside of the tube in the middle of the site. This is directly behind the most common plant spot, and will easily cover the entire area.
As seen above, the radius of this grenade covers the whole default area, as well as a small area out in front of the site. If you happen to be on the other side of the map when the enemies are taking B-Site, ask a teammate to tell you when the enemies begin planting. It’s also important to realize that you can place this on the other side of the tube if enemies are no longer planting in the default position on the left.
Nanoswarm #2 for Enemies Jumping out of Hookah:
This swarm grenade covers a very nice area when multiple enemies are jumping out of hookah and attempting to take B-Site. The placement for this one should be close enough to hookah so enemy players can’t see it from inside of hookah. By the time enemies have a chance to shoot it, it should already be activated. You can also place it right up against the wall if enemies are playing around it.
If enemies give you a chance to activate this as they’re jumping out, you will more than likely get a free kill or two. At the very least, multiple enemies should be damaged heavily for the rest of the round, allowing your team to more easily retake the site.
Nanoswarm #3 and #4 for Inside of Hookah:
Both of these swarm grenades are actually hidden inside of a small object on either side of the big wooden box in hookah. In order for enemies to destroy them, they must hear it and wall-bang the correct spot. When figuring out which of these two to use, think of how your opponents have been playing. If they peak hookah, go for the spot that’s closer to where they’d be standing. If they play more passive and don’t peak too often, place a swarm grenade farther back in hookah
As seen above, these two nanoswarms cover a relatively similar area, but can each have their strengths and weaknesses in specific situations. If enemies find one of these two nades, it’s a good idea to swap to the other spot. If the enemies somehow end up finding both, you can continue placing it to distract enemies and waste their time, or simply save the nanoswarm.
Killjoy on A-Site:
Nanoswarm #5 for Default Plant Position on A-Site:
This first spot is a very sneaky spot that can catch many enemies off-guard if they don’t realize where it’s located. Before the round starts, walk up to the truck in the middle of A-Site, and throw it as far back and to left as you can. This will make spotting the swarm grenade very hard for enemies that are walking in from A-Short.
As seen above, this grenade completely obliterates the default plant position, likely killing the spike planter. It’s also worth noting that there are many variations of this spot in case enemies begin to shoot it before planting. You can practice finding a couple of them in a custom game or before the round starts.
Nanoswarm #6 for Enemies Pushing A-Short:
This nanoswarm is slightly harder to place, but is very powerful once positioned properly. It can be placed behind one of the two metal hinges that connect to the teleporter. It will most likely not be noticed by enemies until they are already beginning to push out of A-Short.
Enemies walking into A-Site from short will be heavily damaged or potentially killed. Sometimes enemies will even take the teleporter to survive, allowing your teammates to counter-attack and successfully hold A-Site. If you have a teammate playing from the back of A-Site or rotating from CT, tell them to peak when you activate your nanoswarm as they push.
Killjoy’s nanoswarm ability is definitely one of her best abilities, and can win entire rounds for your team. When placing swarm grenades, make sure enemy players can’t easily spot it from a distance, as they can simply shoot it. Also try not to place this ability in the same spot multiple rounds in a row after the enemies have found and destroyed it.
